THE USE

The proposed extension intends to help an elderly couple to have a better quality of life. In the existing house all sanitary services (toilet and shower/bath) are on the first floor. They are both very frail and need the help of a carer.

The project proposes disabled access to all spaces. The entrance door to the extension is wider that the existing front door and the new hall provides access to the old house and has a small utility space.

From the hall there is access to an individual toilet and also to a shower, both with direct light. The next room is divided from the main room. This area is to allow a carer to rest and a there is a small study area with individual access to the garden, allowing the couple or one of them to rest alone. The main room in the extension is planned to be a dayroom with two dedicated areas, one for playing music, another for painting. The main central space would be for a bed with sitting areas on both sides. This room has direct access to the garden which would allow enjoying fresh air outside under the porch or on a bench in the garden.
